Kidney Transplant Services

Every patient of NYAKC who is interested in a kidney transplant will be evaluated by a team of transplant center specialists.

New York Artificial Kidney Center is affiliated with the following UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL TRANSPLANT PROGRAMS:

  • New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center
  • NYP/Weill Cornell Medical Center
  • NYU Langone Medical Center
  • Mount Sinai Medical Center
  • Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine

After evaluation by a transplant team, you will be placed on a national organ waiting list. The national waiting list is not a simple list which gives priority to the person who has been waiting the longest; It uses complex methods to calculate where and when the best kidney match occurs.

It is very important to maintain good health and keep proper documentation to increase your chance of getting a kidney transplant in time. Do not miss any appointments with your transplant team. At NYAKC, we arrange for transplant teams to come to our facility for our patients’ convenience, to ensure proper progression on the waiting list.
The average waiting time for a kidney from the national deceased donor waiting list in the US is five years, but this can change significantly depending on your personal situation.
